Region: Languedoc, France
Grape: Viognier
Notes: From Paret’s prime hillside vineyard sites on the banks of the Northern Rhone. Gerard Depardieu was so impressed with the wines that he invested in the business and now collaborates making Viognier wines in Condrieu. Ripe, peachy fruit, full dry and absolutely delicious!
Wine 3. Errazuriz Cabernet Sauvignon Rosé 2007 £7.99 Club price £6.39
Region: Central Valley, Chile
Grape: Cabernet Sauvignon
Notes: The cool Pacific and nearby Andes mountains exert a strong influence on vine production in Chile. Here in the Maipo valley, the contrast between cool nights and very hot days provides excellent conditions for the vine. The Rosé is made from Cabernet Sauvignon grapes and has ripe, fresh red fruit flavours of berries and cassis. Rich, fruity and full flavoured, perfect for barbecues.
Wine 4. Kingston Estate Petit Verdot 2005 £7.99 Club price £6.39
Region: South Australia
Grape: Petit Verdot
Notes: The Petit Verdot grape variety produces outstanding results in the warmer wine growing regions, such as here in South Australia, and it is beginning to attract the accolades it deserves. The wine is big in structure, with deep intense colour and rich flavours of plum and dark berry fruit.
Wine 5. Vina Ravanel Cabernet Sauvignon 2006 £7.99 Club price £6.39
Region: Chile
Grape: Cabernet Sauvignon
Notes: The cool Pacific and nearby Andes mountains exert a strong influence on vine production in Chile. Here in the Maipo valley the contrast between cool nights and very hot days provides excellent conditions for the vine. The Reserve Cabernet spends 10 months ageing in oak barrels. It has intense ripe black fruit and cassis flavours and ripe tannins. Big and flavoursome, perfect for barbecues, red meats and hard cheeses.
Wine 6. Escobera Jumilla 2002 £6.99 Club price £5.59
Region: Jumilla, Spain
Grape: Monastrel, Syrah
Notes: The warm climate is moderated by the high altitude of the vineyards which beneficially extends the ripening period of the grapes. The Tinto is made from 85% Monastrell, which is particularly well suited to the hot conditions here and produces a wine with fresh, dark fruit, some peppery, spicy flavours and smooth, balanced tannins. In 2002 all the fruit which normally goes into the better Crianza, instead went into this wine.’‘Rich and aromatic, with good depth and concentrated southern Spanish fruit.
